How to Calibrate Thunder Bolt Autofocus for Exact Focal Length

How to Calibrate Thunder Bolt Autofocus for Exact Focal Length

Perface

Precise autofocus calibration is critical for laser processing. This article will guide you to rapidly achieve perfect focus alignment and guarantee precision machining results.

Tools Required

1.5mm Allen Wrench

Manual Focus Tool

Specific steps

Setting the Autofocus

  1. First, securely place a 3mm-thick wooden board on the honeycomb bed, then proceed with the autofocus calibration.
Notes
Before the operation, ensure both the material and the honeycomb bed are perfectly flat to prevent focal accuracy issues from gaps or warping.

  1. Then, the attached BOLT Focus test file was imported to RDWorks and sent to the machine for processing.

Notes
Make sure that the machine and the computer have successfully communicated before sending the file to the machine, otherwise the send is invalid.

  1. After that, use a magnifier to identify and document the smallest and roundest spot data.

As shown in the figure, the marked circle is the smallest and roundest spot, which corresponds to a data value of 3.7 - this is exactly the optimal focal length parameter we need to set.

  1. Finally, in the RDWorks software, writing the optimal focal length value (3.7) into the controller.

Setting the Manual Focus Tool

1. Place a flat material centered on the honeycomb bed, directly beneath the laser head.

  1. Then use the 1.5mm Allen wrench to loosen the set screw on the manual focus tool shaft.

  1. After that, place the manual focus tool on the knurled Knob.

  1. Finally, reinstall the manual focus tool and let the shaft rest on the material, and then tighten the set screw.
