Material Test Generator for LaserMaker

Material Test Generator for LaserMaker

Preface:

LaserMaker has a built-in test pattern generator to help you find the best processing parameter for your laser and any material you're working with.

To open the Material Test Generator, go to the Laser Tools Menu and select Material Test.

Notes
For the THUNDER machine series, now we can only use Laser Maker for Nova Series, Bolt Series, and Titan Series, not including the galvo system machines.

Using The Material Test Generator

After opening the Material Test Generator, you'll be able to configure your test pattern. By default, the Material Test Generator will create a grid of boxes with varying Power, Speed, etc. Use the Param dropdown to select different parameters to test.

Test Configuration

Use the settings below to configure your test grid.

Size Mode

Selecting the Element Spacing, the size of the final material test file will be defined based on the XY-Interval between each of the test grids.

Selecting the Matrix Size, the Width/Height of the material test file can be set, with the software automatically determining the size of each test grid.

Processing Technique

Selecting Cutting will set the test grid as a cutting file.

Selecting Engraving will set the test grid as an engraving file.

Laser Setting

Laser1-RF is selected to enable the CO₂ laser source.

The parameters tested can be Speed and Power.

Notes
This is a demonstration of LaserMaker version 2.3.1, released in November 2025. It is estimated that a newer version will include DPI as a variable parameter in the engraving layer of the Material Test function.

If your machine supports the dual laser source, Laser2-Fiber is selected to enable the Fiber laser source.

The parameters tested can be Speed, Power, Frequency, and Pulse Width

This is a demonstration of LaserMaker version 2.3.1, released in November 2025. It is estimated that a newer version will include DPI as a variable parameter in the engraving layer of the Material Test function.

Explanation

Count

How many rectangles are in each row/column

Param

The setting being tested along this axis

Min

The lowest value to be used for this setting

Max

The highest value to be used for this setting

Width/X-Interval or

Height/Y-Interval

The Width/X-Interval or

Height/Y-Interval of each rectangle in the test grid

Cut Settings

There are two switches to enable or disable the text labels and border.

The three buttons at the bottom of the dialog box open the Cut Settings Editor, where you can adjust the settings to use in your test.

Generate border

This switch controls whether the border around the test grid is output.

Generate text

This switch controls whether text labels are output.

Material Parameters

Base settings for the test — the two settings chosen in Param will be proportionally varied in the grid, but all other settings applied here will apply to every test grid.

Text Parameters

Settings to use for the text labels

Border Parmrameters

Settings to use for the border around the test grid.

Running the test

Simulation

Generate a preview of the test grid. In this interface, we can click the Calculate button to estimate the overall processing size and the predicted processing time on a 3 mm plywood board.

When we click Start, the machine will begin engraving the test rectangles from the currently set starting origin.

Import Canvas

Generate the corresponding test file on the canvas, then send the file to the machine to begin the test.

If we draw and select a custom pattern before clicking the Material Test Generator, the final file will be a material test grid that uses your custom pattern for each cell of the grid.

After processing, evaluate the cutting and engraving results of each test grid to determine the optimal parameters for cutting and engraving of the specific material.
