How to Test Focus Distance on Titan and Titan Pro

How to Test Focus Distance on Titan and Titan Pro

Preface

This guide explains how to test and confirm the focus distance (focal length) on Titan Series machines.
Test results can be saved to the USB drive supplied with the machine.
You may perform the test using
RDWorks, LaserMaker, or LightBurn Software.
NotesTitan has one focus-depth value for the RF tube. Titan Pro has two focus-depth values (RF and Fiber).
Before you begin, take a photo of the current focus-depth values on the touch panel so you can restore the original settings if needed.

Material needed

  1. Wooden board (for RF focus test)
  2. Black anodized aluminum (for Fiber focus test)

Complete Guide

Method 1: RDWorks

RDWorks focus test files: Focus distance testing file-RDWorks

Connect to the machine in RDWorks and open the focus distance test file. Use the correct RDWorks file for your model:

  • Titan Series: "Titan - Dot test for focus distance.rld"
  • Titan Pro Series (RF): "Titan Pro - Dot test for focus distance.rld"
  • Titan Pro Series (Fiber): "Titan Pro - Line test for focus distance.rld"

RDWorks Test Procedure

  1. Confirm the Z-axis is enabled on the machine (required for autofocus and correct Z movement).

  1. Place the test material on the honeycomb table and secure it. Use a wooden board for the RF tube; use black anodized aluminum for the Fiber test.
  2. Move the laser head above the test material, then set the machine Origin.
  3. On the touch panel, press "AF" to autofocus on the material.
  4. Press "Frame" to verify the job location

  1. Press "Start" to run the focus test file.
  2. Review the engraving results and identify the optimal focus distance (see evaluation criteria below).
  3. Enter the optimal value into the Focus Depth setting on the RDWorks software and save.

How to Evaluate Results

Titan (RF): Select the focus distance that produces the smallest and most perfectly round dot on the wooden board.
Read the user settings, then write the optimal focus depth value from the software.

         Input the focal length value

Titan Pro (RF and Fiber):

  • RF: Select the focus distance that produces the smallest and most round dot on the wooden board.
  • Fiber: Identify the line that appears brightest and most consistent on the black anodized aluminum.
Check the back side: the best focus distance typically produces the cleanest line and the most evident cut-through mark.
Notes
If the cut-through effect on black anodized aluminum is not obvious, increase the layer power and test again.
  • On the software, read the user setting, then write the optimal focus depth(s) to save the values to the controller.

Method 2: LaserMaker

LaserMaker does not provide a dot-marking process mode.
For both Titan and Titan Pro, determine focus distance using the line/ cut mode in the LaserMaker focus test file.

Notes
If you open the test file in LaserMaker without connecting to the machine, the laser tube type may display as a glass tube by default.
For accurate testing, connect to the machine first, then open the test file.

Method 3: Lightburn

LightBurn includes a built-in focus test feature. Use it to test focus distance for Titan and Titan Pro.

· Before testing, take a photo of the current focus-depth values on the touch panel so you can restore the original settings if required.

Important Notice

LaserMaker and Lightburn do not support multiple focal distances input yet as of the end of 2025, we are closely collaborating with the two software developers to add these parameters and ensure compatibility of the new functions. Before this, please use RDWorks to write different focal lengths onto the controller.

Firmware released in December 2025 for Titan added a function on the touch panel for users to select the Auto-Focus value for the optional lenses/barrels.
Notes
If you upgrade to the new firmware, verify on the touch panel that the correct lens/barrel option is selected after the upgrade.
