Why the laser tube won’t fire the beam

Why the laser tube won’t fire the beam

Problem description:

The laser tube won't fire the beam even the laser switch is on.

Reasons:

1. The laser beam path is out of aligned

If the laser beam path is out of aligned, the beam cannot comes out from laser head.

Solution:

Paste a piece of tape on the first mirror, then press "Pulse" button on LCD panel. If the tape is burn a dot, it means you need to adjust the laser beam path. If not, check others.

Below video is for reference.

2. The wires of laser power supply or contactor are loose

If the screen of laser power supply is off, maybe the wires of lasers power supply or Contactor are loose.

The laser power supply of NOVA24/MINI60 is installed in the left side door.

The contactor of all series machine is installed in right side door.

Note:

For NOVA24/MINI60, we installed HY-T60, it doesn't has a screen, so just need to check the wires directly.

Solution:

Open these doors to check them.

  • If all wires are tight, please note if the contactor will trigger(you can hear a click clearly) when you turn on the laser switch.
  • If the contactor will trigger when you turn on the laser switch, please measure the voltage output of contactor. The voltage should be 115V/230V.

Dangerous voltage! Take care to avoid coming into contact with electricity.

If the contactor will not trigger when you turn on the laser switch, maybe the contactor is faulty.

3. The laser tube or laser power supply is faulty

Solution:

Remove the signal wires of laser power supply, and press the red test button of laser power supply. See if the electric current( on a meter or screen) changing and laser tube emits a beam.

Below video is for reference.

Click the TEST button to test the current of the laser power supply - YouTube

  • If the electric current change and laser tube emits a beam, the problem is the laser signal transmission problem.
  • If both electric current and laser tube are nothing, please check if you can hear a ZIZI sound (it's a sign of energy output of laser power supply) from the with high voltage connector when you press the red test button.
  • If you can hear a ZIZI sound, but laser tube isn't emits a beam, the laser tube is worn out or faulty. If not, the laser power supply is faulty.

4. The laser signal transmission problem

(1) The OPTO-Isolator is faulty

If your laser power supply is installed an OPTO-Isolator , please remove it for testing first.Below picture is OPTO-Isolator .

Solution:

Remove the OPTO-Isolator and connect the all signal wires to laser power supply directly.

Before removing the OPTO-Isolator    After removing the OPTO-Isolator

After removing the OPTO-Isolator , the wiring between the Controller and the laser power supply is as follows:

Controller CN5 position————Laser power supply

     PWM1————IN

     L-ON1————TH or H

 GND————G+WP or P (short connection)

If the machine can fires after removing the OPTO-Isolator , the OPTO-Isolator  is faulty. Please contact us:tech@thunderlaser.com

(2) The laser signal interface on controller board is faulty

If all things are good above, maybe the laser signal interface on controller board is faulty.

Solution:

Swap the CN5 and CN6 connector.

Note:If there is no wiring in CN6, just connect CN5 to CN6 directly.

Then press "Pulse" button on LCD panel, if it's fires, it means the CN5 position is faulty.

We need to change the laser signal channel in software. Below video link is for reference.
