Selection and Application of AURORA Series (Fiber, MOPA, UV)

Preface:

Aurora series has 3 types of laser marking machines: Q-switched, MOPA, and UV.

Q-switched laser and MOPA laser marking machines are fiber laser machines. Q-switched laser and MOPA laser marking machines' names are from the laser working principle and technology. UV laser marking machines is a solid-state lasers. The term "UV" describes the laser wavelength during operation, and it doesn't matter what type of laser is used.

The working principles, parameters, processable materials, and processing effects of the three types of laser markers are different. Compared to the Q-switched laser marking machine, the MOPA laser marking machine has this

following advantages:

1. The frequency can be adjusted with a wider range.

2. Adjustable Pulse-Width.

3. Can provide the same peak power at different frequencies.

4. It can reach peak power instantaneously.

The above advantages make the MOPA laser marking machine more refined than the Q-switched laser marking machine, and the processing speed is faster.

Suitable material

The working principle and parameters of the three laser marking machines are different, so the materials and process effects are different.

Due to the specific laser wavelength, the adjustable range of parameters such as frequency and pulse width is limited.

Q-switched laser marking machines can mark metals such as brass, nickel silver, copper, phosphor bronze, 304 (food-grade) stainless steel, mirror stainless steel, carbon steel, pure iron, galvanized iron plates, zinc alloys, gold-plated zinc alloys, zinc, magnesium, nickel, aluminum, anodized aluminum, and titanium, as well as non-metals like PBT, PET, epoxy resin, PU leather, and slate.

However, they are not suitable for marking materials like wood, PA66, PE, PP, or glass. The range of marking colors is also limited. Additionally, Q-switched laser marking machines can be used for coating or paint removal on coated metals and spray-painted ABS.

The material range applicable to MOPA laser marking machines is essentially the same as that of Q-switched laser marking machines.

UV laser marking is a type of cold light marking, that directly interacts with the molecular structure of the material during processing without heating it. This helps avoid igniting the material during processing and prevents heat damage to the material. Additionally, UV marking does not produce dust or smoke. So UV laser marking machines are suitable for marking most materials, except for a few metals with high reflectivity, including metals, wood, and plastics. Especially suitable for materials which sensitive to heat, such as glass and thermoplastics.

Marking Effect

The Q-switched laser marking machine has basic marking functions and is capable of marking metals such as ABS, aluminum, and some non-metals. It can achieve both black and white marking effects on metals like brass, 304 stainless steel, carbon steel, mirror-finished stainless steel, galvanized iron sheets, and magnesium plates. Titanium plat can produce stable color markings with practical value. Stainless steel and nickel plates can also be painted, but it is not recommended.

The MOPA laser marking machine can achieve all the marking functions of a Q-switched laser marking machine. In addition, the MOPA laser marking machine offers more vibrant colors and can perform black marking on anodized aluminum as well as stable color marking on stainless steel. Furthermore, the marking results with a MOPA laser are finer, smoother, and have fewer background patterns.

The UV laser marking machine performs excellently on plastic packaging of food, daily goods, and electronics. Its marking quality can rival that of inkjet printing while avoiding pollution.

Application Scenarios

Compared to traditional marking technologies such as steel stamps, electric engraving pens, dot peening, scribing, electro-etching, and inkjet printing, laser marking machines' advantages are as follows:

C. Non-contact marking, which avoids damaging the material's surface;
D. Software control, enabling precise design;
E. Low noise;
F. Convenient maintenance.

Marking Dates, Batches, Traceability Codes

When producing products, information such as the production date, batch number, and traceability code should not be pre-printed but marked immediately after production. Laser marking machines can quickly and non-destructively mark products. It is recommended to use UV laser marking machines for marking on common product packaging. UV laser marking machines use cold light marking technology, which produces bright and distinct colors. Most importantly, the process is very safe, eliminating the risks of perforating the packaging, heating the product, or generating toxic and harmful substances.

Crafts

The MOPA laser marking machine is suitable for various materials, offering fine marking quality with flexible parameter combinations. It can create beautiful, colorful anodized layers on metals such as stainless steel.

If you're on a budget, consider the Q-switched laser marking machine. For crafts, it provides sufficiently exquisite marking quality. Although it cannot create stable, colorful anodized layers on stainless steel, it can achieve color marking on titanium plates.

Precision Processing

In precision processing, very fine dot marking and engraving are required on metal surfaces. We recommend using the MOPA laser marking machine, which offers a wide range of adjustable parameters and provides a fine and even beam. It is the most suitable model for precision processing.
