How to Upgrade the HMI Firmware for Thunder Air

Preface

This article describes the procedure to upgrade the HMI firmware of the Thunder Air fume extractor. Please strictly follow the steps below. Improper operation may result in upgrade failure.

Tools Required

  1. TPWorks software
  2. USB‑A to Type‑C data cable
  3. T‑handle 5 mm Allen‑key
  4. Hex key


Specific steps

1. Install the TPWorks software.

Step1: Unzip the attached file, then open the installation package.

Step 2: Choose the path where you want to install.

Step3: Select the Start Menu folder for program shortcuts.

Step 4: Check Create a desktop shortcut to generate a desktop icon.

Note: Normally, keep the default TPWorks, no changes are needed.

Step5: Review all installation‑related settings and start the installation.

Step 6: Complete the installation.

2. Connect your computer to the controller of the Thunder Air.

Step1: Locate this position on the rear side of the machine, then use the T‑handle 5 mm Allen‑key to open the top‑cover door by turning it counter‑clockwise.

Step 2: Find the controller, then use a hex key to remove the six nuts on its side to take off the housing.


Note: The nuts may be covered by foam. Please gently move the foam aside to locate them.

Step3: Locate the HMI Port and use the USB‑A to Type‑C data cable to connect the computer and the Thunder Air.

Step 4: Turn on the Thunder Air.


Plug the Type‑C side into the HMI port of the controller, and connect the USB side to your PC.


3. 
Upgrade the HMI Firmware.

Step1: Open the TPWorks software.

Step 2: Select the program that needs to be upgraded.

Note: You may get the upgrade firmware from Thunder‑Laser technicians.




Step3: On the TPWorks menu bar, open HMI and select Download to HMI to download the project to the HMI touch‑screen.

Step 4: Confirm and select the communication COM Port.


Open Windows Device Manager, check the USB‑serial COM port number under Ports (COM and LPT).

In the Download window, select the matching COM port from the COM port set and configure options as in the picture.

Step5: Click the Download button to start transferring the project to the HMI touch‑screen.

Step 6: Finish the upgrade.

Finally, disconnect the data cable and relock the top cover door of the Thunder Air controller.

4. Verify whether the upgrade was successful.

Check in the top left corner of the panel to see if the version has been updated successfully.
