How to install the Thunder CO2 Galvo

Preface:

When you receive your new Thunder CO2 Galvo machine, please refer to this section for the detailed installation procedures.

Installation Procedure:

1. Machine Installation

1.1. Installation Preparation

  1. Remove all components of the Thunder CO2 Galvo machine from the packaging box.
  2. Including the Work-Table, the Tower, the Galvo Head&Laser Source, the Controller Case, the Signal Cable, the Power Cord, and the Tool Bag.

1.2. Install the Tower

  1. Install the Tower onto the Work-Table in the correct orientation, as below.

Note: The Tower is pre-installed with the Controller Case and Laser Source mounting holder.

Note: Before tightening the four M8 screws, make sure that the edge surface of the Tower is fully aligned with the edge surface of the Work-Table.


1.3. Install the Controller Case


  1. Install the Controller Case onto the holder and securely tighten the four M5 mounting screws.

    WARAM: There are non-removable connection cables between the Controller Case and the Laser Source, so they must be moved together to avoid cable strain or damage.

1.4. Install the Galvo Head&Laser Source.

  1. Install the Galvo Head&Laser Source to the older.

WARAM: There are non-removable connection cables between the Controller Case and the Laser Source, so they must be moved together to avoid cable strain or damage.

  1. A pre-aligned positioning block is installed on the Laser Source housing, allowing users to quickly locate the correct installation position of the Laser Source.

  1. Align the positioning block underneath the laser source with the holder platform.
  1. Adjust the position of the laser source to maintain sufficient clearance from the Tower, ensuring smooth Z-axis movement.
  1. Tighten the four M5 screws.

    Note: Before installing the laser source, the height of the laser source holder can be manually raised or lowered using the knob on the top of the tower while the machine is off.
    You may manually rotate the knob to adjust the laser source bracket height for easier installation.

1.5. Connect the Power Cord and the Z-axis Signal Cable.


  1. Connect the Power Cord and the Z-axis Signal Cable.

2. Software installation

To provide greater flexibility, Thunder Laser systems support multiple software solutions. The instructions below introduce 2 compatible software options (EzCad 2 and LightBurn).

You may choose the software that best matches your application needs and working preferences. In most cases, only one software package is needed for normal machine operation.

2.1. Connect the machine to the PC


  1. Connect the machine to the PC by USB cable.

    Note: Before installing the driver or using the software, make sure the computer is connected to the machine and the machine is powered on; otherwise, the computer will not be able to recognize the machine/device.


2.2. Install the Driver

  1. For Thunder CO2 Galvo machines, two recommended software programs are EzCad2 and LightBurn.
  2. LightBurn and EzCad2 drivers cannot be installed on the same computer at the same time; only one of them can be used.
    Be sure to uninstall the EzCad2 driver (if it has been installed) before installing the LightBurn driver, vice versa.

2.2.1. Install the Ezcad2 Driver

  1. Right-click This PC,

Or click the Windows search area and type "device".

  1. Go into the Device Manager
  2. locate the Unknown Device name "USBLMCV2"
  3. Right-click the device and click the Update Device
  1. Click the Browse my computer for drivers
  1. Select the corresponding driver file from the U-disk
    We can find the driver from the U-disk.
    File Path: U-disk came with the machine>>Thunder CO2 Galvo>>Laser Software>>Driver>>LMCV4_RL

    Note: EzCad2 and its driver are only compatible with the Windows operating system and cannot be used on macOS. If you are using a Mac system, please use LightBurn Galvo software instead.


  1. Complete the installation
  1. After the installation is completed, you can find a device named “Laser Mark Control Board V4 [USB]” in Device Manager.

2.2.2. Install the LightBurn Driver

  1. Download the LightBurn software.
    Before downloading the LightBurn software, check out this article on choosing the right software version for your computer.

  1. Run the LightBurn installer and at the last screen, check "Install EzCad2/EzCad3 driver".
  1. If this box (install driver) is not checked during the first installation, you can simply run the installer again, and select this box to ensure the driver is installed for use.
    Windows will prompt you for permissions escalation to install it, and quickly replace the driver provided by default with one that LightBurn can use to communicate with your Galvo-based laser.

    Alternatively, the installer for the driver is in the LightBurn files at "C:\Program Files\LightBurn\EzCad2Driver\" and can be run again via the "dpinst-x64.exe" file directly.
  1. After the installation is completed, you can find a device named “USBLMCV2” in Device Manager.


2.3. Uninstall the Driver

Note: LightBurn and EzCad2 drivers cannot be installed on the same computer at the same time; only one of them can be used.

Be sure to uninstall the EzCad2 driver before installing the LightBurn driver.

If one driver has already been installed, the driver for the other software cannot be installed successfully.

  1. Uninstall the EzCad driver
  2. Check the Delete the driver software for this device
  1. Uninstall the LightBurn driver
  2. Check the Delete the driver software for this device

2.4. Open the Software

2.4.1. Open the EzCad2

  1. Open the EzCad2.

    Note: The EzCad2 software is stored on the included USB drive.

    Software path: U-disk that came with the machine>>Thunder CO2 Galvo>>Laser software>>EZCAD_LITE


  1. When the software does not display "Demo version-only for evaluation", the connection is successful.


2.4.2. Open and configure the LightBurn

  1. Open the LightBurn


  1. Create a new device in Lightburn:
    Click the Devices>>
    Create Manually>>JCZFiber>>


  1. Import EZCad Config

    We can find the EzCad Config file in this path:
    U-disk that came with the machine>>Thunder CO2 Galvo>>Laser software>>EZCAD_LITE>>plug>>markcfg7


  1. Finish creating the device
  2. A successful connection will show Ready



  1. Loading the correction file:
    Click the Device Settings>>Load COR file
  2. Select the COR file
    We can find the COR file in this path:
    U-disk that came with the machine>>Thunder CO2 Galvo>>Laser software>>Correction file
